Losing a loved one can be so heartbreaking and painful. Truth is, no matter how ‘’prepared’’ you may be, it still ends up shocking you. Knowing that you’ll never see your partner again is probably one of the worst experiences ever.

This is why most people would rather cling to the bereaved partner than leave him/her alone. Because it is such a low point in life, leaving one to their thoughts can lead to acute depression, isolation, lack of interest in any activity and more.

Allowing it to continue for longer terms can result in grave turnouts.

Here are suggestive ways to handle the loss of a spouse:

  • Ask for Help

Drowning in your thoughts can be very destructive. Stop having the thought that you’re weak when you’re asking for help. One way to go about this is joining a support group because support groups have people who have been hurt similarly. Each of you can help one another to heal. You can also ask for help from friends, family members or anyone you can confide in.

  • Work Out Your Social Life

This is particularly when your social life has been a part of your spouse’s. It’s okay to avoid couples dinner or some events that will aggravate your pain. Also, everyone would understand why. It is better to do things that will ease you like seeing a movie with friends, hanging out at a park or just having ice cream. You may also be unable to stand the constant condolences as well.

  • Give Away Personal Belongings

Holding on to your spouse’s personal belongings isn’t a good Idea except if it gives you happy memories about them. You should consider giving out items like their outfits, perfumes and anything that will constantly make you cry. The earlier it’s done, the faster your healing process.
