Although one cannot categorically tell what can go wrong in a wedding, there are some frequent disasters to look out for.
You don’t want to spend your money, blood and sweat; and then a tiny detail left out ruin the day.
Here are areas to pay attention to, to avoid disaster on your wedding day.
1. DIY Projects
We know how so many people will tell you to pick your flowers yourself, tell your Aunt who used to bake 2000years ago to make your cake, how your sister’s friend who studied arts can decorate your venue and the likes.
Be extremely careful with DIY projects. If you have to, getting things in writing is essential because you’ll be disappointed the day of the wedding if they don’t provide everything that you’ve expected.
2. Food
Although it is okay to have other and every type of cuisines, never forget to make preparation for the traditional cuisine of most of your guests.
You don’t want guests to say No to your menu, leave grumpy and hungry, yet food has gone to waste.
3. Bugs, Flies and the rest
This is especially common when the wedding is holding in a traditional venue. The guests are busy half of the time, shushing flies away from their faces.
It would be nice to have some organic fly/bug repellant sprayed in the venue.
4. Weather
Don’t ignore the weather, don’t check too far in advance, and prepare for all types of weather; especially if it's an outdoor wedding.
Don’t just wish for favourable weather, prepare for the unfavourable ones.
5. Have a master list of everything you need
Don’t forget your rings, your vow, readings or toast. And more importantly, make sure there are multiple people in the bridal party that you assign to check that with you.
And for things that can be duplicated, have multiples.
6. Band/MC mispronunciation
I cringe when I go to weddings, and the band or the MC can’t even pronounce the couple’s surname or their parents’ names, or event their special guests.
This is totally unacceptable. Have pre-planning meetings before your day and go over details as this.
7. Late bridal party
Avoid unnecessary stress and delay for your bridal party. Make sure there is a plan to transport them to the venue before the wedding starts.
Not the couple or their team should be late for the ceremony. It is not cool to keep your guests or officials waiting.
8. Parking lot
There is nothing more stressful to guests than roaming around the venue looking for a parking space.
Arrange with event centre or anywhere around that can help with this or have them park at a place and transport them down to the venue. Also, make sure this plan is stated in their invitation for smooth movement.
9. Power outage
Make sure you have a backup power source and make sure it is enough to power all the lights, equipment – AC, speakers and the rest.
Don’t just have it, test it for long hours, a day before the wedding.
10. Leave enough time for photography
If you want great shots, give the photographer enough time before, during and after the ceremony. Allow him to dictate the best places to stand for lighting sake.
You don’t want to be disappointed when you see your photos.
11. Wardrobe Malfunction
Make you have someone on the team who can sew, glue or quickly mend any malfunction.
Have your tools in your personal box, to avoid delay or disappointment.
