Start with your name
Let’s start with the basics. Use the name well known to all or most of your guests, whether it’s the first, middle or last name, as starting point of your hashtag. You can also use a nickname friends gave both of you. This will make it easier for people to remember and relate to.
Avoid hashtags that can be misspelt
Avoid words that can be misspelt by guests. If there are two of the same letters in different words next to each other you may want to move words around. It could be as simple as flipping #AdaandDike to #DikeAndAda. Longer last names could be misspelt e.g. #MeettheOhiwonpanmwonyis, so you may shorten it to maybe #MeettheOhis.
Avoid symbols and spaces
A good hashtag should not contain symbols or emojis because they’re easily forgotten or misplaced. Spaces don’t work- once you hit ‘space’, anything you write after is not part of the hashtag. Your hashtag should contain only alphabets and numbers.
Avoid using a long hashtag
Hashtags are meant to be brief and easy to remember. Going for something long can make it difficult for one to remember and it's a pain for guests to type
Ensure you are not hijacking someone’s hashtag
One of the best ways to create a unique hashtag is to carry out a small check by going on Instagram and searching for that hashtag. If the hashtag has not been previously used by someone, you won’t find any pictures when you search. Ensure you double check right before the wedding and before announcing it.
Using a hashtag for your wedding is a trend that has come to stay and not just because it’s cool. It’s a tool for keeping track of all the pictures and videos of your wedding on Instagram, and even the tweets. You get to experience your wedding through the eyes of your guests. It is a virtual centre around which so many of the special moments taken on your big day will live. Hurray for technology. To make sure all your wedding moments don’t get lost under other posts, you need a unique hashtah. To create one, follow these tips:

Be Punny
Use puns. If your names are synonyms then you should use it to your advantage. See these examples in the image above. This can make your hashtag creative and fun to play with. Use alliterations, rhymes, and puns for a wedding hashtag that's both clever and memorable.
Ask friends and family
Get your close friends and family to assist you with coming up with fresh ideas. Ask them to submit options, give their honest opinion on hashtags you're considering and help determine whether your tag is easily understood and user-friendly.
Make sure you let all your guests know your hashtag and ask them to use it. Include it in your wedding invitations, social media broadcasts/announcements and you can even have a sign up at your wedding.
