Taiwo & Jide Akintokun

Taiwo and Jide got married recently with their beautiful wedding ceremonies held at the British International School, Oniru Estate. Taiwo, a fashion designer on the rise met Jide, a telecom engineer, through a mutual family friend, with almost instant chemistry the couple began a relationship soon after. Taiwo tells the rest of their story and planning process best, so below are extracts from our Q&A session with her

The Proposal
Jide is the kind of person that always knew what he wanted. We talked about marriage through 9 months of dating but the way he proposed was quite shocking. Considering the fact that I can figure things out easily, he totally caught me off guard. With the help of my sister Kehinde Oniru, Jide came to my job and had my entire team members in a conference room. I applied for a new position and I thought that I was being called in the room for my new position to be announced. When I walked in I notice the end of the high table was being held for me so I was sure I got the position. Then I saw Jide walking in the room with some flowers and getting on one knee and asking me to marry him. I was so shocked and could not figure out how he planned this. However, he had the help of my twin sister Kehinde Oniru, my Manager Saihou Jeng, and his lovely wife Della Jeng.

Wedding Inspiration
Keeping GOD first, and knowing that through him there is no problem that we will face that he shall not guide us through. So keeping GOD first in our relationship and taking all our problems TO him.

How long it took to plan the wedding
It took less than six months to plan the wedding because I already knew what I wanted the venue, cake, decoration, and other things to look like. My sisters and mum assumed the role and brought my vision to light.

Did you use a wedding planner?
My mom and my sister were my planner. We have had a wedding each year for the last couple of years that we need to start an Oniru Wedding Planning Services. Lol!

Anything else you will like to share (tips for future brides...etc)
A tip for the future brides is to try to focus on themselves and take things easy. I am doing this write up 19 days before the wedding and I am still not allowing anything to stress me. Try to have an open- mind about things that is not going your way or as planned. Make sure that you have a great support system (like your mom and sisters) and talk to them for alternatives when things do not go as planned.
