2016 was been an incredibly fashionable year but now we’re moving on to 2017 and we want to know what trends we are leaving behind and what styles will dominate the wedding scene next year. Designers have their 2017 collections in, so we have a pretty good idea.
These are our style predictions for weddings in 2017.
1. Bell sleeves
It was all about baring the shoulders in 2016. This time it’s about flared sleeves. While we still expect to see some shoulder in 2017 (because let’s face it, they’re pretty), we love the added drama of bell sleeves.
2. Pant suits
They have been a workplace staple for the most part, but this time the pant suit has seen an update that makes it wedding worthy. For 2017, they are a lot more flexible; flowy fabrics, asymmetry and frills. Definitely the way to go if you want to be the wedding guest that stands out in all the right ways.
3. Sheer
The sheer trend made an appearance in several collections for spring 2017. With fabrics like lace and chiffon being a major part of African attire, we’ll be right at home with this trend. The trick is to keep it demure while giving the illusion of bare skin under the fabric. Use a nude lining or limit darker coloured lining to areas you want to cover.
4. Calf-length
Isn’t it annoying when no one gets to see your gorgeous shoes and perfect pedicure? Problem solved, and about time too. Floor-length dresses have had their day.
Both flared and form-fitting skirts are bang on trend here so whichever one you choose will be a hit.
