Top 5 Outfits To Wear To An Engagement Party As A Guest

Getting invited to an engagement party is lit! But with this invitation comes the responsibility of dressing the part. You don't want to look too overdressed or otherwise for this special occasion. So, how do you have a blend of balance? Check out our advice on how to style yourself for the party:

Never Wear White

White should be reserved for the bride-to-be. Unless white is the colour hue for the party, you should avoid dressing that way. Keep your colours warm, plain or slightly bright. If you're planning on wearing a patterned outfit, ensure they aren't too flashy or attention-grabbing. Additionally, while black can be the go-to colour for almost any occasion, dressing in black for an engagement party usually has a negative undertone.

Simple Gowns For Ladies, Neat Pants For Men

Ladies, sophisticated short, long or wavy gowns suit perfectly for an engagement party. You can also consider skirts or pants that accentuate your body figures.

For men, modernist trad outfits or neatly-ironed pants and shirts can come in handy for an engagement party. Nonetheless, you want to avoid looking too officy or too owambe-like. Dulling flamboyant dresses with less obvious additions will help you find a balance.

No Jeans Please

Jeans are everyday wears. Dressing yourself to a special event with jeans can be rude. Again, the only exception is if it's the required dress code for the party. Otherwise, do away with wearing jeans. Indeed, you can merge nice outfits with jeans, but the toning down effects of jeans can be extreme and you don't want that.

No Overtly Colorful Patterns

Colourful patterns are show-stoppers. Unless you intend to steal the show from the host, avoid wearing conspicuous colours for your party. You may even be mistaken for the intending bride or the groom.

Wear Outfits Based On Timing

Nighttime parties or dinner parties would require more fashion-forward suits, gowns and stylish traditional wears. Afternoon parties can have a blend of simple gowns and pants.

Whatever outfits you have chosen to wear, make sure it's suited for the event. Most importantly, look good and excited for the host. In the end, that's what matters!
