You just got engaged and it's time to take the next step which is planning your engagement party/ceremony.
Engagement ceremonies, especially in Nigeria, are different in a lot of families due to the various tribes with numerous customs and traditions. Therefore planning one can be a herculean task but here are 5 things that need to be a top-of-mind priority before planning your engagement ceremony:
1. Have a blueprint
Have a sit down with your partner and come to an agreement on the type of ceremony you both want. Rather than dive head-on into planning, make research on what you are planning for.
You need to know if you will be planning for an intimate engagement ceremony or an elaborate one, once that decision is made, every other thing falls easily into place.
2. Budget
It is necessary to have a budget: do this before choosing the type of ceremony you want. Note that the kind of ceremony you want will determine the budget that would bring your choice to life.
The important thing is for you not to go overboard with the planning as it would do nothing but stress you when things are not going as expected.
3. Date
Once you have a date picked out for the ceremony, you automatically have yourself a deadline.
A date should be selected almost immediately after a successful proposal. This will allow planning to kick in early as you do not only have an engagement to prepare for but also the main wedding.
4. Guestlist
A guest list aids in having a smooth planning process. This way, you wouldn't need to continuously worry about who is coming or who you are not inviting.
Engagement ceremonies tend to be more intimate with couples inviting only families and close friends. The blueprint you have for your engagement will help in determining your guest list. Think about it this way; an intimate ceremony will have an intimate list while an elaborate ceremony will have an elaborate list.
5. Be Open to Assistance
You will need all the help you can get during the planning process down to the execution. Allocation of duties will help ease you and your partner of stress.
Once you have all the aforementioned on lockdown, you can go ahead and have a stress free engagement ceremony planning and I hope it is all you ever imagined.
