As a groom, picking the right men for your train is very important because they serve as your support system to cheer you on your big day. Your groomsmen can help your day go as smoothly as possible and on the other hand, they can make things rather difficult for you if you pick the wrong people.
If you are confused about which friends to pick as groomsmen, here are some things you should put into consideration:
- How reliable are your friends?
You have to be realistic and know which of your friends is reliable enough to commit to being your groomsman on your special day. If some friends may not be able to commit due to personal or financial reasons, you may want to focus on involving friends that are willingly available. Also do not feel bad if a certain friend declines your groomsman invitation.
- Do they actually want to be part of the wedding party?
Some people may not want to be part of your wedding party for personal reasons or otherwise. Respect the fact that everyone has different priorities that they may unavoidably place over being your groomsman and even attending your wedding all together. Have an open and honest conversation with the individuals in question just to maintain your friendship.
- Will your friend be available on that day?
Make sure your friends can actually attend your wedding before including them in your plans. There may be unavoidable events that they may have to attend to.
- Consider who you will choose as your best man
Most times, the best man or one of the groomsmen will be obliged to give a speech at the rehearsal dinner and may also give a speech on the wedding day. This has to be someone who has a genuine connection with you and who won't have trouble sharing life experiences with other wedding guests.
- Consider selecting cheerful people
Having cheerful people around on your big day can calm your nerves and bring about positive vibes when getting ready to walk down the aisle. Make sure your support system actually supports you!
Apart from all the points above, it is also important that you consider close family members and friends that will easily be able to go the extra mile for you.
