An Emirate woman got served by her husband after spending more than Dh150,000 (about $40,000) on her a wedding dress instead of using the money to pay for their wedding.
He proposed to the woman shortly after they met. As part of the marriage contract (prior to the wedding), the man agreed to pay the woman Dh150,000 to spend on the wedding. After the wedding, the husband found out that his wife had a debt of between Dh150,000 and Dh200,000.
“The wife was exposed when her lenders asked her to repay the money … the woman had to divulge the bitter truth and she asked him [her husband] to repay her debt as well,”
He filed for a divorce before a Sharia court and he was granted divorce.
