5 Marriage Myths You Should Never Adopt

Wedding ceremonies show all the glitz and glamour of a relationship; sometimes unrealistically. While there are so many prayers and wishes that accompany a married life, here are some myths you shouldn't indulge in:

Children Will Bring Blessings

Unfortunately, this is far from being true. Hypothetically, having kids may bring you a source of joy, but they do not carry with them gifts of money and goodness. Before having kids, you must be both interested and involved.

Everything Will Change

Unless you're working towards a change, it's not going to happen. Assuming your fiance has some attributes you don't like, getting married to them wouldn't change it. It's only through intentional and consistent personal work that makes this happen.

Weirdly, myths about your attitude changing towards friends also exist. Except you're actively working to distance yourself from friends, nothing changes.

Your Interests Will Get Similar After Marriage

Certain hobbies and interests of a couple can be similar. However, there are a lot more that are very contrasting. It is perfectly normal, and you should make sure to give yourselves the times you need to get these done.

You'll Always Have Fights

No doubt, couples can have disputes and little fights here and there. It doesn't translate to constant arguments or bickering. While you can both have arguments, it doesn't mean that's the way relationships should go. Having healthy quarrels, learning how to overcome certain disputes and looking out for the longevity of marriage makes it last longer.

You'll Have Perfect Communication

Even when you've spent several years living together, your spouse cannot guess what you're thinking. Although there's the belief that marriage brings a utopia of perfect communication, the reverse is the case most times. The only way to communicate close-to-perfect is through clear messages and actions.

While getting married does change how you view certain things, it should be geared towards improving your personality and self-awareness.
