We are halfway through the year which means we have two more seasons to follow for weddings before the year ends; the late Summer/Autumn season and the Christmas/New year season. Grand gestures will always be an awesome highlight but are they really here to stay?
There has been a general shift for some couples towards fulfilling a quality experience as opposed to having just a big wedding and reception. Who knows whether fire-breathers are and garden-themed ceremonies will stand the test of time? That’s definitely something for event planners to consider!
Here are some 2019 wedding trends you can’t miss:
2. Dark Wedding Cakes
Whoever said wedding cakes had to be white, cream and blush? People have started to go against the norm and design wedding cakes that are eggplant purple, navy blue or even black. This is done especially to go with the theme.

3. The African Experience Honeymoon
A lot of couples from around the world and not just from Nigeria are visiting African cities for their honeymoon. Asides the fact that Nigerians are at an advantage of skipping visa processed to visit some of these cities, the tourism in countries like Uganda, Gambia and Sao Tome are becoming increasingly attractive.

4. Minimal Makeup and Simple Hairstyling
Brides actually end up looking fantastic and having a certain glow about them with minimal makeup and a simple hairstyle that accentuates their natural features.

5. Experience Based Weddings
Wedding parties are now experience-based and they will continue to be in the near future. In Lagos, you could go to a wedding reception and have the time of your life there because it feels like you went to a free concert with Burna Boy and Tiwa Savage with lots to eat and drink. Circus style entertainment is also being appreciated more as it offers a different entertainment style to singing along to popular Nigerian club bangers!

6. Classic Romance Ambience
The rest of this year will show a lot more emphasis on low centrepieces and rich colour schemes featuring deep striking colours like Emerald and Aubergine. This could be incorporated in intimate details like ribbons and centrepieces.
