We all want to go to weddings and have a good time but there is such a thing as ruining aspects of the couple’s wedding day with our actions as guests.
As a wedding guest, there are a few unspoken wedding etiquettes you should know. There are also some rules that apply to the couple regarding their expectations from others.
Here are some of them:
Private Photography
If it’s your wedding day, brace yourself and put your phone away! The bride and the groom should not handle their phones at all, they should focus on themselves and enjoying all that comes with their big day.
If you are a wedding guest, there are some moments in the ceremony that you should just be happy to witness instead of focusing on getting the hottest snaps of the new couple.
Some couples may even indicate that they do not wish for pictures to be taken during certain periods or at all, especially if they are very private.
Dress Code
You should never come across as trying to upstage the bride or groom on their special day. For ladies, avoid wearing white or any other colour that the bride is likely to wear.
Beyond colours, do not use this opportunity to wear a flamboyant outfit worthy of making all eyes focus on you just to be fashionable. This also goes for men too, the only Fresh Prince of Bel-Air at that wedding should be the groom!
Plus Ones
This is a major unspoken rule that people flout all the time. Wedding guests should always ask if they are allowed to invite a friend or more to the couple’s wedding before they actually do.
It is not nice to show up to someone’s event with plus ones that have not been catered for. The best-case scenario is not to bring anyone at all and focus on meeting people at the wedding.
Do Not Invite Your Ex
This is very important for the couple to adhere to. You want to have a drama-free and fun-filled day with your nearest and dearest.
Money Decisions
Considerations that affect the bridal train such as their dresses or suits for the day, hotel and travel should be thoroughly considered by the couple before arriving at a final decision.
Consider that your bridal train will need time to plan ahead of your special day so it will help to give them adequate notice. Also, make sure everyone on the train is reasonably financially capable of being on it.
Weddings only happen once in a lifetime for most people; it takes a collective effort to make it a very special time.
