War, epidemics and time have only made Cao and Wang’s love wax on stronger, last week they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary by recreating their wedding day complete with cake, flowers, wedding dress and more. The lovebirds met at a ball in 1943 where Cao asked Wang to dance, cliché as it sounds, it was love at first sight.

During World War II, Cao was sent to the frontlines to work as an interpreter and wasn’t even given an opportunity to let Wang know he was going. The first letter he sent her was a photograph of himself wearing an army uniform, Wang cherished this photo for years. Almost two long years later, Cao came back and proposed to Wang at the train station with a ruby ring he bought in Myanmar.

Their four children encouraged and helped them celebrate their milestone anniversary in a special way.

“My parents are 98 this year. Nowadays, they can barely remember many things in their life, but they can recite the love poems they wrote to each other during the wartime” – Cao Jnr.

Congratulations Wang and Cao, your love for each other is truly inspirational!
