Buki & Noruwa | Sugar Weddings & Parties

Whoever says romance is dead clearly never met Buki and Noruwa. Their love story began on the 9th of January 2013 at the Radisson Blue hotel where they had their first date after being introduced by Noruwa's cousin. Things quickly moved along and the pair were officially an item 5 weeks later, Noruwa popped the question four months into their relationship

The Proposal

"Buki travelled to Barcelona Spain on official assignment with some of her colleagues on Friday. I had gone to the swiss embassy in Abuja to get my visa 2 days before and made Buki believe I would only pick up my visa the week after so that she would have no idea I could travel. I saw her off at the airport on Friday. On Saturday night I was at the airport and caught my flight to Barcelona but had made Buki believe I was home in Ibadan. That Saturday evening I ended our call at 10pm that night making her believe I was tired and needed to get ready for church the next morning, but I had to turn off my phone as the plane was ready to leave. We landed Amsterdam at 6am and I pinged Buki and we chatted a while then at 7am I made her believe I was getting ready for church before I made my connecting flight to Barcelona. I then said bye I had to leave for Church and my phone will be off until about 1pm after Church. I landed in Barcelona at noon and took a taxi to Buki's hotel, Porta Fira. I told the front desk why I came and they got excited. They called Buki's room and dropped when she picked to confirm she was there. She later told me she thought it was me calling from Ibadan after Church and couldn't connect due to network issues. The front desk person saw me to her room and wished me well with a big smile on his face. I opened the box with the ring and knocked on her door. She called out thinking it was her colleagues as they were going to the beach.. 'are you guys ready?', then she opened the door.. there was shock on her face, eyes wide open, mouth dropped and then she screamed and ran back into the room, then I stepped in, knelt down and asked her to marry me. With tears in her eyes she said 'yes, yes …' and she accused me 'you lied to me, you are supposed to be in Church in Ibadan.. how did this happen', I took out the ring and placed it on her finger ..." - Noruwa (the groom)

The big day was planned in four months with the help of a wedding planner (Arinola Idowu). They officially became Mr. & Mrs. at Ikoyi Baptist Church and celebrated with family and friends with a romance themed, lilac and silver, wedding reception at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island.
